Frequently Asked Questions
The two things that are absolutely essential to scheduling your photo session is a location and a time. Ideally, we would choose a time when the restaurant is closed; however, most photos sessions are scheduled in the afternoon between lunch and dinner. During this time, natural light is often softer, creating a more appealing and flattering look for both the interior shots and the food.
The best location within a restaurant for a photo shoot depends on several factors, including the restaurant's layout, ambiance, and the specific shots you want to capture. Here are some considerations to help you determine the optimal setup for your photo shoot:
1. Natural Light Sources: Whenever possible, choose a location with ample natural light. Windows and skylights can provide beautiful, soft light that enhances the visual appeal of both the interior and the food. Consider the time of day when natural light is at its best.
2. Aesthetic Elements: Look for areas in the restaurant that have visually interesting elements, such as unique decor, interesting textures, or a distinctive backdrop. These elements can add character to your photos.
3. Showcasing the Dining Experience: If you want to capture the overall dining experience, consider setting up in a section of the restaurant where you can include diners enjoying their meals. This adds a sense of authenticity and showcases the restaurant's atmosphere.
4. Main Dining Area: The main dining area is often a good choice for capturing the overall ambiance of the restaurant. Choose a location that allows you to showcase a mix of table settings, decor, and the general atmosphere.
5. Private Dining Spaces:
If your restaurant has private dining areas or event spaces with unique features, these can be excellent locations for more intimate shots or shots that highlight specific offerings for private events.
6. Outdoor Seating (if applicable): If your restaurant has outdoor seating, consider incorporating it into your photo shoot. Outdoor spaces can provide a different atmosphere and allow for creative shots, especially during favorable weather conditions.
7. Consider the Flow of Service:
If you're conducting the shoot during operational hours, be mindful of the flow of service. Choose a location that minimizes disruption to the staff and diners while still providing the desired backdrop.
8. Collaborate with the Photographer:
Work closely with your photographer to identify the best locations based on their expertise and the specific shots you want to achieve. They can provide valuable input on lighting, angles, and composition.
Ultimately, the best place for your photo shoot will depend on your specific goals, the restaurant's unique features, and the overall aesthetic you want to convey. Experimenting with different locations during the shoot can also yield a variety of captivating images.
Daily specials typically require about 2.5 to 3 hours for photography. The restaurant refresh session is expected to take around 3 to 3.5 hours, and I am planning a full five hours for the Grand Opening. It's important to note that these standard packages are all flat-rated, so you won't need to be watching the worry about how much the photos will ultimately cost. I recommend taking your time during the process. As we work through your shot list, we will eventually cover everything. Use this time to focus on presenting the food at its absolute best.
